Alex Bondonno is a musician with many diverse influences and experiences. A music scholar from an early age, Alex went on to study at Music at City University, London. Here he specialised in both electroacoustic composition, and performance, taking both on to postgraduate level. He studied clarinet and saxophone at the GSMD under Andrew Webster and at the RCM under Richard Hossford. He has helped founded several ensembles for the performance of new music including The Zenith Ensemble and Anaemoeblub. He has worked as a sound engineer and remixed and produced tracks for Horace Andy, All Saints and Seal. Alex currently has focussed on his jazz performance and alongside directing Straight No Chaser, runs his own Jazz Quintet and is seen performing regularly with many other bands around the South of England.

Alex currently works as a Music Teacher and is Woodwind Co-ordinator for Surrey County Arts. He specialises as a jazz educator and tutors Surrey County Youth Jazz Orchestra, local youth jazz bands and runs regular jazz workshops for children and adults.

In Straight No Chaser Alex is currently playing Lead Alto, often also turning to flute, clarinet, or soprano sax.

Saxophones:

Alto: Yanagisawa 992 (Bronze) Fantastic sax, recently acquired and thoroughly pleased with this. Normally played with Meyer 6 mouthpiece.
Tenor: Selmer mk6 1960 vintage. Unusual nickel plate. Played with a mouthpiece of unknown origin. But I haven't found a better one! It may be an early Lawton. 7* Stainless steel, with stylised "L" on one side. Please contact me if you know what it may be.
Soprano: MW cheeep and cheerful model, but it works and seems to make an excellent sound. Played with Link "tone edge" 7* mouthpiece.
Clarinet: Buffet RC13 with Portnoy no3 mouthpiece. Currently searching for a better jazz setup!
